A prominent Russian microbiologist has made a sensational claim that Chinese scientists did ‘absolutely crazy things’ in their laboratory, enabling the coronavirus to infect the human cells.
Professor Petr Chumakov, the world-renowned microbiologist, further revealed that the scientists at the Wuhan Laboratory were actively involved in the development of various coronavirus variants for over ten years. However, he added that they were actually studying the pathogenicity of the virus and had no malicious intent to deliberately create a manmade killer.
“They did absolutely crazy things, in my opinion. For example, inserts in the genome, which gave the virus the ability to infect human cells. Now all this has been analysed. The picture of the possible creation of the current coronavirus is slowly emerging,” he was quoted as saying by the Daily Mail.
Professor Chumakov further claimed that several inserts, that is, substitutions of the natural sequence of the genome, gave the virus special properties. He also disclosed that the Chinese and Americans who worked with the Wuhan scientists published all their works in the open scientific press.
“I even wonder why this background comes to people very slowly. I think that an investigation will nevertheless be initiated, as a result of which new rules will be developed that regulate the work with the genomes of such dangerous viruses. It’s too early to blame anyone,” he said.
China’s Wuhan Institute of Virology has come under the scanner with allegations that the COVID-19 actually escaped from its laboratory unleashing a pandemic that has killed around 200,000 people across the world so far. Fox News has claimed that COVID-19 likely escaped from a Wuhan lab and not from a Chinese wet market.
US President recently said that his administration is investigating whether the novel coronavirus escaped from a Wuhan lab and vowed to find out how the deadly pandemic was unleashed from China.
